Zimbabwe's Prime Minister to Meet with Obama.

Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is scheduled to meet with President Obama at the White House on Friday, the Obama administration announced today.

Tsvangirai, who heads a unity government with longtime Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabwe, is scheduled to meet with Obama in the Oval Office. "The prime minister, along with millions of Zimbabweans, has been working against the odds to secure a stable democratic future for the people of Zimbabwe," according to a White House announcement.

With an economy shattered by hyperinflation and years of internal turmoil caused by Mugabe's policies, most of Zimbabwe's population is unemployed and dependent on foreign food aid.

"The two leaders will discuss the difficult road ahead in Zimbabwe, including how the United States can support the forces of reform as they work to bring the rule of law, respect for human rights, and free and fair elections back to Zimbabwe," said the statement by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
